A useful first step into cooking.
First Skillet is published by JPDevLabs for people starting with very little in their kitchen. It began with the practical problem of wanting to cook while owning almost no useful equipment. Choose a meal, see what it needs, and build from there.
What the planner does
You choose meals around your available appliances, time, preferences and budget. The planner combines shared ingredients, rounds groceries up to whole packages, and separates food from one-time equipment purchases. Mark tools and sufficient pantry ingredients you already own to avoid buying them again. Appliances must already be available; their purchase cost is not included.
What the numbers mean
An ingredient-use estimate values the portion used in a recipe. A first shopping trip can cost more because you buy full packages. The planner uses fixed reference package sizes; it does not search live store inventories. Package and equipment prices can be edited in your plan while the original reference price remains visible.
Default prices are dated U.S. retailer reference prices checked October 10, 2026, with source links provided. Some retrieved pages may be cached. These are not live or local checkout quotes, and the examples do not form a single-store basket. Prices, promotions, stock, package sizes, tax, delivery, and other fees may differ. Edit prices to match your store; your edits remain separate from the linked references.
Beans and chickpeas use an assumed 255 g drained yield per reference can, not a retailer-verified drained weight. Fruit prices are retailer estimates for one item and may be charged by weight. Equipment examples use full pack or set costs, including separate components where required. Cup and spoon equivalents are approximate; the recipe’s original shopping quantities remain the calculation basis.
About the recipes and illustrations
The initial collection contains original vegetarian breakfast, dinner, snack, dessert and baking recipes. Initial recipe drafts and some food illustrations were created with AI assistance. These recipes have not yet been kitchen-tested. Checks of ingredient amounts, costs, equipment requirements and source references do not establish cooking performance. We do not claim culinary credentials, tested results or a nutritional analysis.
Read each recipe before starting, check product labels for allergens, and follow its food-handling guidance. Dietary tags describe the listed basic ingredients; they do not guarantee allergy safety or cover every manufacturer’s ingredients and cross-contact practices.
Heated recipes use complete original-size batches. Extra servings are prepared as separate batches, with their elapsed times added; do not put the combined amount in the same pan or microwave bowl. No-heat quantities can scale, while cold waiting time stays the same. Stored cold dishes use separate containers per serving, and the planner allows storage for distinct opened canned ingredients with expected leftovers. Times still vary with equipment, ingredients and experience.
Food images are illustrations, not photographs documenting recipe tests. The editorial policy explains our sources, calculation assumptions and correction process.
Free to use
No account or paid service is needed. Your kitchen plan stays in your browser. There are currently no display ads. We plan to apply for advertising support and may introduce clearly disclosed affiliate links. Current retailer links are price references, and no paid placement determines the equipment estimates.
